INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARLY-PRACTICAL CONFERENCE The Reformation: Humanity, Church, Society
20-21 April 2017, St. Petersburg

Respected colleagues, we invite you to take part in the work of the International Scholarly-Practical Conference as part of the “Reformation 500” series. The conference will take place on 20-21 April 2017 at St. Petersburg Christian University (Narvskii prospect 13B, St. Petersburg, Russian Federation).

Basic aspects of the conference’s task
• The variety of intellectual sources for the Reformation and reformed traditions;
• The secular aspect of the Reformation and its consequences for the development of Western civilization;
• The Reformation and the anthropological change in the European awareness of a new era;
• The religious pluralism of the Reformation and its role in the formation of a culture of co-existence and freedom of confession;
• The theological assumptions of the Reformation’s ecclesiological paradigms, their variations and subsequent development;
• Confessional Protestantism and the specifics of Reformation processes in Eastern European civilization;
• The cultural impulses of the Reformation and their realization in various European contexts;
• Justification and justice: The Reformation’s influence on socio-political and economic processes;
• The Reformation and the civilizing choice of Eastern European peoples.

Presentations and publication
Conference participants will have the opportunity to present a paper. Those who wish to do so must send a thesis summary (not more than 500 words) in electronic form to the conference secretary by 20 February 2017 (E-mail: srrc@e-aaa.info). The organizing committee will then examine and select the papers to be presented and will send invitations to the proposed participants. The completed texts of the selected papers must be sent in by 1 April 2017. Together with the formal presentations, the participation of listeners will also be included. Presentations should take 20 minutes. A thematic issue of conference materials will be prepared for Bogoslovskie razmyshleniia/Theological Reflections, the Euro-Asian theological journal.

The working languages of the conference are Russian and English.

Requirements for papers
Papers should correspond to the conference theme, as well as to the normal principles of originality, relevance, scholarly innovation, and well-based suppositions.
The text of the paper (up to 12 pages) should be presented in MS Word, A4, Times New Roman font, 12-point (footnotes 10-point), left-justified, upper and lower margins of 2 centimeters, left 2.5 centimeters, right 1.5 centimeters, and page numbers on the lower right-hand side. Footnotes are to be formulated according to the menu: insert/footnote/normal and automatic. On the first page the title of the paper should be centered with the author’s surname and initials on the upper right-hand side with academic credentials printed in full (no abbreviations), followed by scholarly title, position, place of work or study, city and country of residence, and the text of the paper beginning one line down. After the title of the paper there should be a summary (14-point) in both Russian and English (500 words), as well as a list of key words (in English and Russian).
Quotations and footnotes should be formulated according to “Notes and Bibliography” of The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th ed. The transliteration of Cyrillic sources should be formulated according to the Library of Congress system. Authors should include a brief summary of personal information in the language of the paper and in English. The organizing committee reserves the right to refuse papers that do not correspond to the announced conference theme or are not in accordance with scholarly standards or the requirements for presentation.

Conditions for conference participation
To register as a conference participant, submit the registration form by February 1, 2017. Conference participants, except for those presenting papers, will pay a registration fee of 500 rubles. The fee includes the cost of a registration packet, meals, and coffee breaks. The cost of travel to the conference will be covered by the participants themselves. Participants who do not pay the registration fee may register and participate as guests (without the conditions pertaining to conference participants). The registration fee may be paid at registration on the first day of the conference.
Accommodation is not included in the conference registration fee, but the organizing committee can assist in reserving rooms in nearby hotels if requested in the registration form. Conference speakers from other cities will be provided with accommodation in the hotel SPbCU.
