SPbCU announces the opening of registration for the course

«Study of Old Testament Foundations in English»

Notice of the intention to register for this course should be submitted no later than February 20, 2017

Due to the amount of information given the first night, attendance at first lecture is required — but that night is free so that you can verify your skills.

Course description:

This course is intended for those who already have a good grasp of English (High Intermediate or Advanced level), who want to increase their skills through the study of the Bible.

The goal of the course is to help students use the English language, increase their biblical vocabulary, and better understand the Old Testament so that they can more easily use the English language Bible.

Course Content:

A modern English language version of Scripture along with printed notes will be used as basic texts. The course will present a vocabulary list of words needed for each lecture, a time-line of history, methods of study of the Bible, genres of the various books of the Bible, and reasons why various Scriptures are important

Each session will be divided into 3 parts: vocabulary work, lecture, and small group discussions based on something connected with the information presented.

Principles of study and the use of questions

2. The benefits of historical experience
Method of study
Genesis: main events

3. Covenants, slavery and deliverance
Exodus-Deuteronomy

4. Geography of the Ancient Near East
Entrance into the Promised Land
The Division of the Land
The Temple
Joshua, Judges, Kings and Chronicles

5. Political powers of the Ancient Near East
Assyrian and Babylonian Captivity
The kingdom era
Jonah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Ezra-Nehemiah

6. Prophecy, Poetry and Wisdom Literature
The Psalms, Proverbs and Job

7. Other books as time allows

Course Schedule:

Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 7-10 P.M. starting February 21, 2017, and will continue for 15 weeks. The first night of classes is free, so that students can verify their ability to grow through this course. It is necessary to be at the first lesson in order to continue.

Document on Passing the Course:

Those who have attended all classes and who pass a final exam will receive a certificate from St. Petersburg Christian University.

Course fee:

The cost for this course, including about 100 pages of written materials, is 2500 (two thousand five hundred) rubles. Payment is to be made in a lump sum after completing a written contract.
