Project Transfiguration 2008

Location: the Russian Far East, Primorsky Territory, Tavrichanka village

Duration: August 9 - September 1, 2008

Number of SPbCU students needed: 5

Aim: to use our talents to help young people get closer to God no matter if they are believers or not.

Results from last year: 18 people accepted Jesus as their Savior and many believers renewed their relationship with God. We hope that this year God will once again actively work in the lives and hearts of both participants and collaborators of the camp.

In order to help young non-believers find Christ and believers become stronger in Him the following events are planned:

August 8-22 - an evangelistic outreach for young people called "Catch the wave."

August 22-25 - a mini-session for Christians and those who accepted Christ during the days of evangelization to help them merge with the church youth.

August 29-30 - a trip to Mount Pidan (about 1800 meters high). This trip is a very important element of the post camp work. It gives the young people one more opportunity to interact with other believers and talk about God, this time under extreme conditions which
contribute to unity.

Description of the arrangements planned:
1. The evangelistic outreach, "Catch the Wave," is a 10-day period intended for 100 young people and will be held at the Christian camp called "Transfiguration." This program combines spiritual work and active rest for young people. It is based on a sea theme. For example, the camp will be a ship, the coordinator of the session will be called "captain", etc. Every day the ship will moor in a new port, city or country.

Spiritual activities will include: Bible discussions, sermons at general meetings and social interactions in the evenings. In addition, there will be a sports program, meetings for hand-crafts, a variety of interesting clubs, etc.

2. The mini-session for Christians will last for 2 days. It will be like a normal conference; it's aim is to give every participant a chance to receive practical spiritual knowledge and have time for rest and communication with young Christians from other cities of Primorsky Territory and the Far East.

The program for this period includes a night of fasting and prayer, singing in the morning, seminars on different topics such as the history of Protestantism in Russia, methods of studying the Bible, and preparation for marriage. About 100 participants are expected.
3. Only those who live in Vladivostok (40 participants) will be able to participate in the trip to Mount Pidan. This arrangement is also an evangelistic one. It's aim is to bring together non-believers and believers and give a chance for non-believers to look at the relationships between Christians in extreme situations. The program includes Bible study and prayers in the morning and games in the evening.

We need the help of students of SPbCU as dedicated servants of God.

We have specific work for every member of the team, which will contribute to the realization of our goals. Our desrie is that this project will glorify God.
